Some of you might be asking why these varieties aren’t all ice cream or frozen dairy dessert? But a more important question is why aren’t these in gigantic glass jars? (Spotted by Rachel T at Woodman’s.)

If you’re out shopping and see new products, snap a picture of them, and send them in via an email ([email protected]) with where you found them and “Spotted” in the subject line. Also, if you want to send in photos and are wondering if we’ve already covered something or if they’re new, don’t worry about it. Let us worry about it.

  1. I was at Woodmans this weekend and grabbed the raspberry and strawberry mini cups of this. The raspberry is very good and I will be buying it again.

  2. Label requirements:

Dairy Dessert — means less butterfat.

Ice Cream — means higher butterfat.

I’ll be curious if the label actually bears this out.

Not the only criteria utilized by the FDA and USDA to determine if “ice cream”.

Worth noting that the FDA controls the actual federal regulations as far as definitions of the products themselves.

The USDA is more about marketing descriptions for labels for the most part, and are NOT federal regulations.

There’s a great article over at BE called “Did You Know? Why Some Ice Cream Is a Frozen Dairy Dessert” that thoroughly explains all of this.

“I’ll be curious if the label actually bears this out.”

Not as much as you might think for these 4 specific products.

But go look yourself. The nutrition facts and ingredients are listed on the manufacturer’s site.
