REVIEW: Baskin-Robbins Strawberry Tres Leches Ice Cream

Pardon my mixing of languages, but Baskin-Robbins Strawberry Tres Leches Ice Cream is très bien. The sweet treat combines tres leches-flavored ice cream with strawberry pieces, white cake pieces, and strawberry swirls.

Although vanilla-looking, the tres leches base tasted nothing like any vanilla variety or sweet cream ice cream. Instead, there was a unique milkiness that did enough to convince me it was supposed to be three milk cake-flavored. While I believe it tasted pleasant, I wish its flavor had a bit more punch.

The same can be said about the strawberry swirls and pieces. While they had a noticeable berry flavor, they weren’t as sweet or flavorful as what I remember getting from a McDonald’s strawberry sundae. Fortunately, with the ice cream base and strawberry ingredients not being bold, neither overpowers the other, making it possible to taste both in every bite.

Much like the cake pieces in previous Baskin-Robbins offerings, the ones in this scoop were dense and chewy, which was what I expected. Because there is no way light and airy tres leches cake pieces could survive being mixed into an ice cream. As for their flavor, I think the base does a better job than the actual cake pieces at getting across the baked goods flavor.

Baskin-Robbins’ Strawberry Tres Leches Ice Cream is worth a try. However, it is not out of this world like TrES, the Trans-Atlantic Exoplanet Survey. Nor does it hit my taste buds as hard as Green Day drummer Tré Cool.

REVIEW: Baskin-Robbins Paloma Paradise Ice Cream

Baskin-Robbins is bringing the summer vibes during a spring month with the introduction of its Paloma Paradise Ice Cream, April 2025’s Flavor of the Month. The pink-colored scoop features paloma-flavored ice cream and sorbet with mild chili pepper lime swirls.

What’s a paloma? You’d be correct if you think it sounds like a place in California. If you said it’s a community in Illinois, I am impressed with your geography genius. But this treat was inspired by the tequila-based cocktail called the paloma. It’s a mixture of tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit soda (like Fresca) or grapefruit juice. However, you need not worry about alcohol in the ice cream or sorbet.

I’ll admit that grapefruit hasn’t been the first citrus fruit I’ll grab when experiencing scurvy because the fruit’s infamous sourness turns me off. However, I enjoy sipping on a Fresca whenever it’s in a cooler at a barbecue. Thankfully, the ice cream and sorbet base have all the grapefruit flavor but without much sourness. It’s a sweet, citrusy, creamy, and refreshing base. I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The sorbet has an icy texture that could give the impression that there are icy chunks in the ice cream itself. However, I didn’t experience that too much so there probably wasn’t much sorbet in my scoop.

The most intriguing ingredient is mild chili pepper lime swirls. But while I could see chili pepper specks in the swirl, they disappointingly provided a subtle chili pepper kick that’s as silent as the letter B in the word “subtle.” So, if you’re worried about this having a bit of spiciness, you have nothing to fear. Instead, the swirls provide a punchy lime flavor that complements the grapefruit taste without adding any sourness.

While you need not worry about puckering, there’s a little flavor twist that might be weird to some. Despite not containing any alcohol, I tasted a hint of an alcohol vibe with several spoonfuls. It’s not off-putting and adds a little authenticity to the scoop, but I can understand how it might be a turnoff to some.

Baskin-Robbins’ Paloma Paradise is a lovely summery flavor to enjoy during the spring.

REVIEW: Baskin-Robbins Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Ice Cream

Baskin-Robbins should’ve called its Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Ice Cream, March 2025’s Flavor of the Month, Chock-full Chocolate Chip Cheesecake because my single scoop had a copious amount of mini morsels floating in it. It’s like a bag of Nestle Toll House mini chocolate chips double-sneezed on my order.

While the chocolate chips are abundant, there’s a triple threat of cheesecake-flavored components. The flavor features cheesecake ice cream, chocolate cheesecake ice cream, chocolate chips, cheesecake pieces, and cookie crumb swirls.

The white cheesecake base has a pleasant tang and seems to be doing all the heavy lifting regarding the cheesecake flavor. The brown chocolate cheesecake ice cream base has a minuscule level of tanginess, but I’m basing that on what I could taste because there was little of it in my scoop. I tried my darnedest to scrape on a decent amount of the chocolate cheesecake base onto my spoon so I could get a good taste of it, but with what I could get, its cheesecake level paled when compared to the regular base. As for its chocolate flavor, it was lacking, too, but that might’ve been also because of how little I had in my scoop.

Cheesecake pieces are chewy and tangy, but I didn’t notice them at first. Their texture sort of blended in with the softness and creaminess of the bases. Also, they didn’t really enhance the cheesecake taste when I ate it with the regular cheesecake base.

Much like the cheesecake pieces, I didn’t notice the cookie crumb swirls with my first few spoonfuls, but when my tongue hit one, it was hit with a cookie blast. It cut through the tanginess so much that it made my tongue forget it was eating cheesecake-flavored ice cream. But once that faded, the tanginess came back. Eating this scoop was like double-fisting desserts, with cheesecake in one hand and chocolate chip cookies in the other, thanks to the combination of the swirl and crunchy, dark morsels.

Baskin-Robbins’ Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Ice Cream is a delight, thanks to its unexpected cookie twist. It’s far more enticing than its name might lead you to believe.

REVIEW: Baskin-Robbins Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream

Cinnabon is the Febreeze of a shopping mall. When you are within the aroma radius of a Cinnabon, all the other smells are enveloped by the enticing lure of cinnamon, cream cheese, and dough. While the Eau de Cinnabon is strong, the flavors of one of its famous cinnamon rolls are even stronger. However, that bold taste is not what you get with Baskin-Robbins’ Flavor of the Month Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream, which features cinnamon roll ice cream, dough pieces, and cinnamon cream cheese swirls.

The cinnamon roll base has a mild cinnamon flavor with a little something else that makes it taste a little bit different than a straight-up cinnamon-flavored ice cream. While the actual baked good has a bold flavor from the spice, it doesn’t hit the taste buds as hard here. With that said, it doesn’t lack flavor or anything like that, but again, it’s just that I wish the warm spice punch was more potent. Not even the cinnamon cream cheese swirls did anything to amp things up.

As for the cream cheese, the same thing I’ve written about the cinnamon level in this scoop above can be written about the cream cheese taste. While it’s definitely noticeable and gives the ice cream scoop a pleasant tanginess, it’s as slight as the spice.

As for the dough pieces, they don’t seem to add any cinnamon or cream cheese taste. They’re just there to provide a texture similar to the cookie dough pieces you’d find in any chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. As someone who loves those chewy pieces whenever they show up in ice cream, I have no complaints about their texture, but I wish they added something to help enhance the flavor.

I know I sound down about Baskin-Robbins Cinnamon Roll Ice cream, but I definitely did enjoy it. Again, I just wish the cinnamon and cream cheese notes were stronger instead of tasting closer to what I imagine eating the cinnamon and cream cheese-saturated air inside a Cinnabon location is like.

REVIEW: Baskin-Robbins Brie My Guest Ice Cream

Baskin-Robbins’ Flavor of the Month for November 2024 is Brie My Guest. It’s a cheeseboard-inspired flavor that features brie and burrata ice creams, almond slivers, pistachio pieces, and apricot swirls. I was a bit saddened it wasn’t a charcuterie board-inspired flavor, but there’s always future Flavors of the Month.

Pardon my lack of cheese knowledge, but I’d never heard of burrata before having this ice cream. It sounds more like a Taco Bell mad food scientist abomination, but it’s a semisoft Italian cheese made from mozzarella and cream. Thankfully, I know and have had brie before.

The cheese-flavored ice creams give this a cheesecake-like vibe. There’s some savoriness, but thankfully, it doesn’t go too far that it gets weird, like Van Leeuwen’s pizza flavor. The sugar and cream are doing their job of helping balance the savory with sweetness. I thought the flavors would be a little odd, but they were surprisingly tasty. They also paired nicely with the apricot swirls, which added a pleasant fruity tartness. My favorite spoonfuls were those with just the bases and the swirl.

Disrupting my enjoyment of the sweet, cheesy bases were the almond pieces, which provided a slightly crunchy texture but also a bit too much nuttiness that gets in the way of the ice creams. Maybe they should’ve been chopped a bit more instead of slivers? But I had a much better experience with the smaller pistachio pieces, which provided enough of their flavor that they let the headliners shine but also contributed some of their nuttiness.

The idea of eating brie and burrata-flavored ice creams may seem weird, but I enjoyed it and would’ve like it more if it weren’t for those almonds.
