To be honest, before today, I didn’t know much about hazelnut spreads, except for the world famous Nutella.

If you were to have asked me two days ago to name another hazelnut spread brand and recite all 50 states and their capitals or else be pantsed in the middle of a busy public area, I would’ve had my jeans around my ankles. But if the same thing happened today, lots of people would still see my black Hanes boxer briefs, but I would be able to name another hazelnut spread brand because Jif recently introduced a line of hazelnut spreads.

Jif Hazelnut Spread comes in two flavors: Chocolate and Mocha Cappuccino.

If you’re wondering how they compare with Nutella, read through the next two paragraphs filled with commas.

NEWS: Get Ready For More Broken Chips Stuck In The Salsa With New Tostitos Thins

Tostitos logo

While Frito-Lay was making thicker Doritos and Ruffles, it appears they were also thinning Tostitos.

The new Tostitos Thins tortilla chips are not only thinner than regular Tostitos, but they also have a lighter texture. According to the press release, the new chips are, “made from corn that is stone-ground for a light and crispy texture and then lightly dusted with special seasonings to create the two flavors.”

What are those two flavors?

Lime & Salt and TexMex.

Okay, since they’re seasoned, people probably won’t dip them in salsa. But if party goers, game watchers, and movie buffs do stick these thinner chips in salsa or a cheese dip, expect the dip to turn into the Davy Jones’ Locker for broken chips.

Tostitos Thins are now available exclusively at Target stores nationwide through mid-July.

SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 5/1/2012

New products are released all the time and here are some we found on our most recent shopping trips. We may or may not review them, but we’d like to let you know what new items are popping up on store shelves.

This is one of the most boring limited edition product I’ve ever seen. According to the Classico website, “Garden Vegetable is the selection for the spring and summer months – a rich and colorful sauce highlighted with tender zucchini and a medley of red, yellow and green peppers.” Yawn.

More Limited Edition California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizzas! The Limited Edition Chicken Carbonara and Chipotle Roasted Vegetables are definitely more exciting than the Limited Edition Classico Garden Vegetable sauce above, but the CPK pizza I’d like to see in frozen limited edition form is their Habanero Carnitas. It’s the perfect pizza for those of us who like crying and sweating at the same time.

The thing I don’t like about Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats Touch of Fruit in the Middle is its long name, which I believe just gave me carpel tunnel by typing it. We reviewed the Mixed Berry variety last year. But there’s now a new flavor, Raspberry, which sounds like it should’ve been in the Mixed Berry.

Oooh! Now I can make small s’mores with these, a Hershey’s Miniature bar, and Kraft Jet-Puffed Mini Marshmallows toasted with a Bic lighter.

I did a quick Google search and found out Bud Light Lime Lime-A-Rita was not available during spring break. My goodness, Bud Light, you missed an opportunity to be the cause of bad choices for many college kids across the country. You can read more about Lime-A-Rita over at Foodbeast.

Hello Kitty Body Wash

During my most recent visit to Target, I found two new Hello Kitty body washes. Yup, two. Although, I have to admit these Hello Kitty body washes aren’t as compelling as other Hello Kitty products I’ve seen at Target, like the Hello Kitty Microwave Oven. The body wash on the right appears to be more for young children, while the one on the left is SUPER CUTE!

If you’re out shopping and see a new product on the shelf, snap a picture of it, email it to us at [email protected], and you might see it in our next Spotted on Shelves post.

Update: Click here to read our Ruffles Ultimate Kickin’ Jalapeño Ranch review

While looking at the gluten-free products page on the Frito-Lay website, because that’s what I do for fun, I came across a new line of Ruffles potato chips — Ruffles Ultimate.

What’s “ultimate” about them? According to this post on the Taquitos forums, the chips are thicker than regular Ruffles, which give them deeper r-r-ridges. The chips come in three flavors: Original, Kickin’ Jalapeño Ranch, and Sweet Smokin’ BBQ. There’s also a Ruffles Ultimate Smokehouse Bacon Flavored Dip.

First, Frito-Lay gianted Cheetos, then they jacked Doritos and now they ultimated Ruffles. I hope they grande Fritos next.

If you’ve tried any of the Ruffles Ultimate flavors, let us know what you think of them in the comments.
