SPOTTED ON SHELVES – 8/8/2012

Here are some new products found on store shelves by us and your fellow readers. We may or may not review them, but we’d like to let you know what new items are popping up. We’ll also occasionally throw in an unusual product.

Only now Heinz has mayonnaise? I could’ve sworn I’ve eaten Heinz mayonnaise somewhere. Maybe it was in a dream? But then, why would the mayonnaise in my dream be so specific? Maybe my subconscious was trying to tell me something. Perhaps it was warning me that I may face a Heinz dilemma soon. Or maybe my subconscious was craving a chicken salad sandwich.

Yes, astute shopper, there’s already a frozen CPK White Pizza. Although, that one uses the crispy thin crust, which I’m not really a fan of. This one uses their restaurant style crust. Preparing it takes significantly less time than the wait time to get a table at a CPK restaurant during lunch and dinner time.

Usually, I’m excited about new products. Sometimes too excited, according to the strange looks on the faces of my fellow grocery shoppers. However, seasoned steamed Brussels sprouts that’s prepared in a microwaveable steamer bag that has the word “NEW” on it doesn’t at all excite me. I dislike Brussels sprouts that much.

I wonder if these Marie Callender’s Comfort Bakes warm me up by giving me a hug from the inside. The flavors Savory Chicken & Rice, Mac & Cheese, and Cheddar & Bacon Potato Bake sound like they could give me temporary comfort from life’s hurdles and then back to stress and sadness after I’ve eaten it all and licked the tray clean to prolong the comfort.

goatweed

I really wish the bottle said, “Horny Goat Weed with Caca.” That would’ve been a more ridiculous name. What does horny goat weed do? The first word of its name says it all. What about the maca with it? It guess it makes one hornier. Personally, I don’t need an aphrodisiac. All it takes for me is a little bit of a bra strap and collarbone and I’m good to go. Thanks for the picture, Nancy!

If you’re out shopping and see a new product on the shelf (or really unusual), snap a picture of it, email it to us at [email protected] with “Spotted” in the subject line, and you might see it in our next Spotted on Shelves post.

NEWS: Getcha Getcha Getcha Getcha Getcha Greek On With Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt

Healthy Choice Greek Closeup

Welcome to the Greek frozen yogurt party, Healthy Choice!

Although, I have to say they’re a bit late. Ben & Jerry’s came to the party months ago. There are even a few store brand Greek frozen yogurt who arrived on the scene. Well, I guess it’s better late than never.

The low-fat Healthy Choice Greek Frozen Yogurt comes in four flavors: Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Blueberry, and Raspberry. However, they don’t come in pint-sized containers, like Ben & Jerry’s. Instead, they’re sold in box of three 4-ounce snack cups.

Damn you, portion control!

All flavors have 100 calories, 2 grams or less of fat, 1 gram of saturated fat, 45 milligrams or less of sodium, 19 grams or less of carbohydrates, 1 gram or less of fiber, 13 grams or less of sugar, 4 grams of protein, and a sad 10% calcium.

If you’ve tried them, let us know what you think in the comments below.

NEWS: Start Your Morning With A Marie Callender’s Sausage, Gravy & Egg Meat Pie

I think the 22 grams of saturated fat Marie Callender’s new Sausage, Gravy & Egg Meat Pie contains is a good thing.

My doctor says I need to eat more vegetables and if I eat this meat pie and the 110 percent of my daily value of saturated fat it provides for breakfast, it’ll scare me into eating nothing but salads without dressing for the rest of the day…and maybe the rest of the week.

It might also force me to exercise…so BONUS!

The flaky, buttery crust of the microwaved meat pie is not only stuffed with scrambled eggs, sausage, and gravy, it also has potatoes.

The frozen food feast known as the Marie Callender’s Sausage, Gravy & Egg Meat Pie is a great of source of fiber, providing 5 grams. It also provides 810 calories, 54 grams of fat, 105 milligrams of cholesterol, 920 milligrams of sodium, 350 milligrams of potassium, 66 grams of carbohydrates, 4 grams of sugar, and 14 grams of protein.

NEWS: Buying New Tortilla Popchips May Make Katy Perry Happy

You know how some people say they were into a band before they got popular?

Well, I was into Popchips before they got famous. I liked these heated, pressurized, and popped potato chips before the magazine articles and appearances on television. I was into them when they were hardly in any stores.

Look at Popchips now. They’re all chic, have Katy Perry to promote them, and have a new line of tortilla chips.

Yup, the pop-happy folks over at Popchips have figured out how to pop tortillas.

Tortilla Popchips come in four flavors — nacho cheese, ranch, salsa, and chili limon.

Like all other Popchips varieties they contain nothing artificial, have no trans fat, and are gluten free. A one-ounce serving of Tortilla Popchips has 120 calories, 4 grams of fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 190 or less milligrams of sodium, 20 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein. All flavors also have 190 or less milligrams of sodium per serving.

NEWS: New Yoplait Simplait Yogurt Is Redait To End Up In Your Tummait

Update: Click here to read our Yoplait Simplait Strawberry Yogurt review

Here’s the ingredients list for Yoplait’s Strawberry Yogurt: cultured pasteurized Grade A low fat milk, sugar, strawberries, modified corn starch, nonfat milk, Kosher gelatin, citric acid, tricalcium phosphate, colored with carmine, natural flavor, pectin, vitamin A acetate, and vitamin D3.

That’s 13 ingredients.

I don’t think that’s a lot, but Yoplait is cutting that number in half with their new Yoplait Simplait Yogurt. The new variety is made from a combination of six ingredients, which include cultured pasteurized grade A milk, fruit, sugar, corn starch, natural flavor and a vegetable or fruit juice or extract or pectin.

Yoplait Simplait will start appearing on store shelves this month and come in four flavors — strawberry, vanilla, peach, and blackberry. The six-ingredient yogurt will be available in six-ounce containers, have a suggested retail price of 90 cents, and provide seven grams of protein.

Seven grams?

So if I workout, maybe eating Yoplait Simplait will help make me sexait.
