ANNOUNCEMENT: New Impulsive Buy Reviewer Steve

Greetings snacklings,

I am Steve, Head Wordsmith and Chief Executive Office in Charge of Snack Procurement over at Food Junk. I will be stopping by occasionally to share my opinions and knowledge on a variety of food products. And just like Mr. Wendall, all I ask in exchange for the knowledge I give you, is that you buy me some shoes.

I also hope to share a pleasant variety of pop cultural references to things you may have missed (Marblehead Manor) or just haven’t thought about in a while (Suburban Commando), what with your fulfilling job, meaningful relationships, and enjoyable leisure activities.

Feel free to disagree with any and every thing I write, because, you know what they say about opinions: They make an ass out of Uma Thurman.

But be forewarned, if you do take issue with anything I say, your name will be logged and when the zombie uprising inevitably occurs, you will be barred from the prison/farmhouse/school I will have taken over through an awe-inspiring blend of Machiavellian tactics and sheer brute force, and you will be forced to wander on your own, barely surviving the horrors of each new day, until you are eventually destroyed by the relentless undead or devoured by a roving pack of bloodthirsty cannibals.

Just saying.

Also, I like puppies.

ANNOUNCEMENT: New Impulsive Buy Reviewer Adam

Hola, Impulsive Buy readers.

I’m Adam, and as the newest member of the The Impulsive Buy team, I’ll be subverting your all too worthwhile endeavor of kicking the “Latte factor” purchases in your life, further playing havoc to your personal economy and giving your mother yet another reason to say “I told you so,” at those dreaded family functions we call “dinner.”

I suppose this is the time when I say something significant about myself to distinguish me from the myriad of other product reviewers on this site and others. Well, I won’t lie — I pretty much meet your standard definition of a blogger. Six years after diving into the world of blogging under the dubious premise of adding to my “portfolio” as a sports writer, I’ve been sucked into the crazy world of link dropping and taking pictures of dollar menu purchases, all the while making every effort to reference obscure Star Wars books and World War II battles. I’ll try to keep those to a minimum here, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t shamelessly plug my own faith and breakfast cereal inspired blog, Option Pitch and Waffle Crisp.

As for my food philosophy, you only need to know three things.

1) I have a stash of French Toast Crunch and Waffle Crisp in my basement that I’m saving for the Cerealpocalypse.

2) I could survive on a steady diet of boiled chicken liver and frozen peas if need be.

3) The only food I’ve ever found truly repulsive is the olive.

Needless to say, I won’t be reviewing olives here. Anything else is fair game.

PRIZE DRAWING: Because Burger King Has A Lot of New Products

A few days ago we told you about the new products hitting the Burger King menu. For those of you who don’t remember or are too lazy to click the previous link, BK is rolling out new chicken strips, salads, snack wraps, smoothies, and frappes.

If you wanted to try all the new products, you’d have to spend a pretty penny. So The Impulsive Buy will be giving away a $25 Burger King gift card, which will allow one lucky reader to try all the new BK products for almost free. I said “almost free” because I think if someone bought one of every new BK product, it would over $25.

Now, the winner doesn’t have to buy the new products. They can use it to buy a herd of Whoppers or enough french fries to fill a bathtub. But if you win and buy enough french fries to fill a bathtub, you must take a photo and send it to us.

To enter The Impulsive Buy’s Burger King gift card drawing, leave a comment with THIS post. I don’t care what you say in your comment, but it would be great if you listed your top three favorite fast food places so that I can see how many of you included Burger King on your list.

Please don’t forget to fill out the email field because I’ll be emailing the winner for his or her mailing address. The Impulsive Buy will stop accepting entries on Saturday, March 31, 2012 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time. Only one comment allowed per person, and it’s only open to U.S. residents who are at least 18 years old.

For those of you who have a Twitter account, you can get an additional entry by tweeting the following by Saturday, March 31, 2012 11:59 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time:

@theimpulsivebuy I miss stroking his beard, looking into his plastic eyes & resting my head on his fuzzy robe. I MISS THE KING @burgerking!

So just copy, paste, and tweet. Only one tweet per Twitter account.

Good luck!

Fine Print: Burger King is not affiliated with this prize drawing. The Impulsive Buy promises your email address will not be used to send you emails from Nigerian princesses. The Impulsive Buy also promises your mailing address will not be used to send you Macy’s coupons. Bribes will not be accepted. The Impulsive Buy will not be responsible for lost mail, damaged mail, or your Burger King not having the new products.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Nominate The Impulsive Buy For A Saveur Magazine 2012 Best Food Blog Award

Hello.

Would you folks like to help The Impulsive Buy?

If you have a couple of minutes, would you be so kind as to nominate The Impulsive Buy for a Saveur Magazine Best Food Blog Award. I’m asking you folks to nominate this semi popular product review blog because it would be quite funny if Saveur Magazine, which focuses on gourmet food, allowed a junk food/fast food review blog to end up as one of their food blog award finalists.

Because I believe the folks at Saveur probably don’t consider the types of products we review at TIB to be food, I think it’s highly unlikely we’ll end up being a finalist. But, I’d sure like to try with a flood of nominations.

So if you’d like to help The Impulsive Buy make the Saveur Food Blog Awards less savory, visit the Saveur Food Blog Awards Nomination page and fill out the online nomination form.

The online nomination form has 4-7 steps. The number of steps depends on how quickly you want to complete the form and whether or not you want newsletters you most likely won’t read in your email inbox.

Step 1 (required): Fill in the URL of this blog (http://11ygkmmh.com Yeah, I know. Adding the “http://” is antiquated, like the print magazine industry, but that’s how Saveur asks for it.

Step 2 (required): Choose categories. You can choose up to three categories. The ones I feel best fit The Impulsive Buy are: Best Food Humor Blog, Best Group Blog, and Best Special Diets Blog. Some of you might be asking why Best Special Diets Blog. Well, because I think eating mostly fast food and junk food is a diet that’s special.

Step 3 (optional): This part of the form is where you let the folks at Saveur know why you’re nominating The Impulsive Buy. If you don’t have much time, skip this part, since it’s optional. But if you’ve got time to kill, I’d suggest putting a haiku in there. Here’s one you can copy and paste:

The Impulsive Buy
Blog full of fast and junk food
I fear for their health

Step 4 (required): Input your name. This is pretty simple, unless your name is longer than 100 characters. The input field only allows 100 characters. Yes, I checked.

Step 5 (required): Input your email address. Again, this is pretty simple, unless your email address is more than 100 characters long.

Step 6 (optional): Uncheck boxes next to newsletter and special offers. By default they’re checked, so uncheck them, unless you want to fill your email inbox with newsletters and special offers you won’t read.

Step 7 (optional): Click SUBMIT.

If you’re willing to help, visit the Saveur Food Blog Awards Nomination page and fill it out. Nominations close on March 29, 2012.

If you did nominate us, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to do so.

Sincerely,

Marvo
