  1. I’m ready for the lionization of protein to be over. There’s nothing wrong with protein, but you really don’t have to add it to every food you eat to get enough. Just eat mashed potatoes because they taste good (which I wouldn’t say instant ones do anyway). Carbs are an important macronutrient too. Plus, they taste delicious.

  2. When you are seriously weight training and bodybuilding and need to consume 160-200+ grams of protein per day, stuff like this helps to hit those macro levels. Yeah the average normie who doesn’t work out doesn’t need powdered mashed potatoes with added protein, but some us do and will buy it. Though personally I would just prefer to cook up my own mashed potatoes from scratch and just add shredded reduced fat cheese to it, which would actually result in more total protein than this overall, but not everyone has the time or desire to do that.

    1. I don’t think these are being marketed for people who lift weights or do bodybuilding, though. I would guess that the percentage of the U.S. population in those categories is very small too. Protein is being pushed in every single food now and most people get enough protein without having to add it to everything they eat.

      1. This isn’t the first time you’ve harped on about this. Some people have different dietary needs, like me. These companies aren’t forcing you to buy it, and in most cases, the original non-protein+ product is still available. Stop being so negative. Not everyone is you. We all have different needs. Most of the things I am physically able to eat without severe consequences do not contain much protein, so I am glad to have these new options. The world is full of a variety of people, with a variety of needs. I’d sympathize with you if this food was being forced onto you, but it isn’t.

        1. Good response, I don’t get enough protein as I mostly don’t eat meat so any extra I’m all for. It’s not a lot but it all helps!

        2. The sad thing is, companies have realized that “protein” is a huge buzzword when it comes to the health & fitness industry! If it wasn’t “protein,” it would be the next biggest fad in the industry or next dietary ingredient people start to fear monger. In the past, it has been “low fat” & “low carb” as the dietary trend. In my opinion, they’re more than likely targeting someone who is just starting out in their weight loss journey or getting into fitness & having no clue that what they’re eating is not high protein like the label suggests. Think about it this way: if someone with no knowledge on anything related to losing weight, calories, fitness, etc., will obviously go for the label with the buzzword & not do their own research.
